Eric Whitacre and his Virtual Choir

This isn't about my compositions, but it was so neat I just had to share it.

Eric Whitacre, a well-known choral composer, had the idea to create a "virtual choir" singing one of his compositions. He created a video of himself conducting the piece, and then accepted video submissions of thousands of different people singing along. His team put them all together, mixed them, and voila! The diction isn't that great, but I thought the piece turned out really well!

Saxophone Quartet is finished!

I finished my latest composition, "Rondo for Saxophone Quartet." The ETSU Saxophone Quartet read through it last Thursday, and their director, Tom Crawford, rehearsed it with them and gave me several suggestions as to breath articulations, and how to notate exactly what I was after. Mr. Crawford commissioned the piece back in May, but I didn't get started on it until the third or fourth week of this semester (September).

The Quartet is going to read the piece again tomorrow, with my composition professor, Dr. Maria Niederberger, present. This will count as my mid-term for the class.

I am very much looking forward to hearing the piece performed at the end of the term, as I know they will do a great job.
